Veteran Burial Benefit Correction Act

To amend title 38, United States Code, to increase burial and funeral expenses paid by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in the case of death from a service-connected disability, and for other purposes.

Introduced May 29, 2026

Latest action (May 29, 2026) Referred to the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs.

Summary

This bill increases the burial and funeral expenses that the VA pays for veterans who die from service-connected disabilities from $2,000 to $3,000. The bill also establishes an automatic annual adjustment mechanism that will increase the burial benefit each fiscal year based on inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index. The adjustment will be calculated by comparing the Consumer Price Index for the 12-month period ending June 30 before each fiscal year to the prior 12-month period and rounding to the nearest dollar.
