A BILL

To restrict the establishment of triumphal arches within certain areas of the District of Columbia and the capital region, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the “Arlington National Cemetery Viewshed Protection Act”.

SEC. 2. RESTRICTION ON TRIUMPHAL ARCHES IN THE CAPITAL REGION.

(a) Lady Bird Johnson Park, District of Columbia.—

(1) In general.—Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the establishment or construction of a triumphal arch within Lady Bird Johnson Park is prohibited, without regard to the source of funds for such establishment or construction.

(2) Prohibition on funds.—No Federal funds may be made available for the establishment or construction of a triumphal arch within Lady Bird Johnson Park.

(b) Prohibition on Certain Monuments.—No triumphal arch with a height in excess of 50 feet may be established or constructed on land administered by the National Capital Region Office of the National Park Service except by express authorization of Congress.

(c) Definitions.—In this section:

(1) Lady bird johnson park.—The term “Lady Bird Johnson Park” means Lady Bird Johnson Park, formerly known as Columbia Island, in the District of Columbia.

(2) Triumphal arch.—The term “triumphal arch” means a monumental structure consisting of at least one freestanding archway, or a substantially similar structure. <all>
