Summary

HR 8891 amends Medicare program rules for critical access hospitals by excluding labor and delivery beds from the count of acute care inpatient beds. Critical access hospitals face limits on the number of acute care beds they can operate under the Medicare program. By excluding labor and delivery beds from this count, the bill allows rural critical access hospitals to provide maternity services without reducing their capacity for other acute care beds. This change is intended to help rural hospitals maintain or expand obstetric services.
