HR 8857 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To amend title XI of the Social Security Act to adjust which engineered cyclic peptides are qualifying single source drugs for purposes of the Drug Price Negotiation Program.
Summary
This bill amends the Social Security Act's Drug Price Negotiation Program to extend the period before engineered cyclic peptides can be subject to price negotiation from 7 years to 11 years after market approval. An engineered cyclic peptide is defined as a synthetic polymer of amino acids with at least one cyclic structure, developed using laboratory screening methods, containing no more than 40 amino acids, and designed for oral, inhaled, or self-administered use. The change applies to drug lists published after the bill's enactment.
