Volunteer First Responder Housing Act
To expand eligibility for certain housing programs for qualified volunteer first responders.
Summary
The bill expands housing assistance programs to include qualified volunteer first responders. Volunteers who have served continuously for two years with a certified fire department or emergency response organization would become eligible for an $18,000 deduction in annual income when applying for USDA single-family housing guaranteed loans. The bill also allows these qualified volunteers to participate in HUD's Good Neighbor Next Door Sales Program, which offers discounted home purchases to firefighters and emergency medical technicians. Applicants must submit a verification letter from their employer and maintain their volunteer service for at least one year after purchase.
