To direct the Secretary of Defense to furnish stellate ganglion block to members of the Armed Forces with post-traumatic stress disorder, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill requires the Department of Defense to make stellate ganglion block, a medical procedure, available to members of the Armed Forces enrolled in TRICARE who have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and choose to receive the treatment after being informed of its risks and benefits. The procedure can be provided through Department of Defense medical facilities or through qualified health care providers participating in TRICARE. Within 180 days of enactment, the Secretary of Defense must update the VA/DOD Clinical Practice Guideline for PTSD management to include stellate ganglion block as a therapy option and provide information on when it is clinically appropriate or contraindicated. The Secretary must notify Congress of the guideline update. The provision becomes effective 180 days after the bill is enacted.
