Summary

The Campus Lifeline Act of 2026 would amend federal public health law to expand youth suicide prevention and intervention programs, particularly on college campuses. The bill would enhance support for student-led initiatives, including athletic teams and mental health clubs, to educate peers about mental health, reduce stigma surrounding mental health disorders, and help students recognize and respond to warning signs in their peers. The bill would also strengthen the 988 suicide prevention hotline by requiring public awareness campaigns and encouraging States and colleges to include the 988 number on newly issued identification cards. The Secretary of Health and Human Services would be directed to develop awareness strategies in consultation with the Secretaries of Education and Transportation and other relevant federal agencies.
