Summary

This bill amends Medicare and Medicaid to require coverage of food and nutrition services. Under Medicare, food and nutrition services would be covered with Medicare paying 80 percent of the actual charges. Under Medicaid, food and nutrition services would become a mandatory benefit that all state Medicaid programs must cover. The specific requirements defining what qualifies as food and nutrition services would be established by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Both amendments take effect 180 days after the bill's enactment.
