Transit Workforce Development Act

To amend sections 5314 and 5339 of title 49, United States Code, to allow for the use of a portion of grants available for buses and bus- related equipment and facilities to be used for workforce development and training, and for other purposes.

Introduced Apr 16, 2026

Latest action (Apr 16, 2026) Referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

Summary

The Transit Workforce Development Act amends federal law to increase the portion of transit grants that can be dedicated to workforce development and training programs. Currently, up to 5 percent of certain federal bus grants can be used for workforce-related purposes; this bill increases that to 10 percent. The bill also broadens what types of transit activities can use these funds, allowing them to support workforce training for buses and bus-related equipment and facilities more generally, rather than only for zero-emissions vehicle transitions. This gives transit agencies greater flexibility in using federal funding to develop their workforce.
