Sergeant Gary Beikirch Medal of Honor Act

To amend title 38, United States Code, to allow a surviving spouse of a Medal of Honor recipient to receive a special pension concurrently with dependency and indemnity compensation, and for other purposes.

Introduced Jan 28, 2025

Latest action (Mar 4, 2025) Referred to the Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs.

Summary

This bill would amend veterans benefits law to allow surviving spouses of Medal of Honor recipients to receive both a Medal of Honor special pension and dependency and indemnity compensation concurrently. Currently, law restricts Medal of Honor survivors from receiving both benefits simultaneously. The bill removes that restriction by striking a provision in title 38 of the U.S. Code, enabling surviving spouses to collect both forms of compensation.
