Incentivizing Cooperation in Immigration Enforcement Act
To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to provide for priority consideration for certain grants for applicants who have entered into section 287(g) agreements.
Summary
The Incentivizing Cooperation in Immigration Enforcement Act amends the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to provide priority consideration for grant applications from law enforcement agencies in states or localities that have entered into immigration enforcement agreements with the Department of Homeland Security. Specifically, the bill adds a new criterion for grant priority consideration for applicants in jurisdictions that have signed section 287(g) agreements under the Immigration and Nationality Act, which authorize state and local law enforcement to participate in immigration enforcement activities. The amendment applies to the grant program governed by Section 1701(c) of the Crime Control Act. This change creates a financial incentive for state and local jurisdictions to participate in federal immigration enforcement through the agreement process.
