To amend the Controlled Substances Act to schedule synthetic 7- hydroxymitragynine as a Schedule I controlled substance.
Summary
The bill amends the Controlled Substances Act to classify synthetic 7-hydroxymitragynine as a Schedule I controlled substance, making it illegal to manufacture, distribute, or possess. Schedule I is the most restrictive category for controlled substances, reserved for drugs considered to have a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use. The bill specifically includes synthetic equivalents of 7-hydroxymitragynine in this scheduling but excludes 7-hydroxymitragynine naturally occurring in kratom (Mitragyna speciosa), leaving the plant and its natural compounds unscheduled.
