To prohibit politically motivated prosecutions and investigations, and for other purposes.
Summary
The FAIR Justice Act creates a new federal crime prohibiting certain high-level executive branch officials, including the President, Vice President, and specified senior officials, from requesting that the Department of Justice conduct criminal prosecutions or investigations of individuals if the request is made solely for political purposes. The bill also requires DOJ officers and employees to report such prohibited requests to the DOJ Inspector General within 45 days of receipt. Violations of either provision are punishable by a fine and/or imprisonment for up to five years.
