HR 6493 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To allow victims to sue Federal immigration enforcement officers for constitutional violations.
Summary
The bill amends existing civil rights law to allow victims to sue Federal immigration enforcement officers for constitutional violations. The bill modifies section 1983 of the Revised Statutes, which currently allows individuals to sue state and local government officials for violating their constitutional rights, to also include Federal immigration enforcement officers. This extends the same civil liability protections that apply to state and local officials to Federal immigration enforcement personnel for alleged constitutional violations.
