Summary

This bill would expand Medicare Part B coverage to include genetic counseling services furnished by licensed or certified genetic counselors, effective January 1, 2027. A genetic counselor is defined as someone licensed by the state or, in states without licensure requirements, certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Medicare would pay 80 percent of the lesser of the actual charge or 85 percent of the physician fee schedule amount for these services. The bill includes protections against balance billing for genetic counseling services and does not prevent physicians or other providers from continuing to bill for genetic counseling services they provide.
