To amend the Bank Secrecy Act to exempt transactions with respect to cash reward payments by crime stopper organizations from certain currency transaction reports.
Summary
This bill amends the Bank Secrecy Act to create an exemption from currency transaction reporting requirements for certain transactions involving crime stopper organizations. Under current law, depository institutions must report large cash transactions to the Treasury Department. The bill exempts banks from this reporting requirement when transactions involve a nonprofit organization providing cash rewards to individuals who provide information about crimes. The exemption applies only to transactions between the bank and the nonprofit crime stopper organization related to reward payments.
