HR 5995 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to make grants to eligible entities for the purpose of carrying out Ask the Question Campaigns, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill authorizes the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to make grants to states and American Indian or Alaska Native tribes to carry out Ask the Question Campaigns. These campaigns train human services professionals, government agencies, and community providers to ask consumers whether they or a loved one have served in the Armed Forces, with the goal of connecting veterans to available resources. Eligible entities must have developed a veteran suicide prevention plan to receive grants, which can be up to $200,000 each. The bill authorizes up to 25 grants per year for fiscal years 2026 through 2030, with $6 million total annual authorization. The Secretary is also directed to work with federal agencies to implement similar campaigns in their social service and health care programs.
