Enhancing Faith-Based Support for Veterans Act of 2025
To amend title 38, United States Code, to permit the voluntary transmission of patient contact information to certain religious or faith-based organizations by chaplains employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends veterans benefits law to permit Department of Veterans Affairs chaplains to share patient contact information with outside religious or faith-based organizations. The sharing can only occur if a chaplain has conducted a spiritual assessment on the patient and the patient voluntarily agrees to have their information shared. The spiritual assessment is defined as an evaluation conducted by a VA chaplain to gather spiritual information and inform the patient's medical treatment plan. This provision allows VA chaplains to connect veterans with religious or faith-based support services of the veteran's choosing.
