To ensure continuity of pay and allowances for members of the Armed Forces in the event of a lapse in appropriations.
Summary
This bill would automatically appropriate funds to ensure military members, including reserve components, continue receiving pay and allowances during any lapse in appropriations (government shutdown) in fiscal year 2026. The bill would also cover pay and allowances for civilian Defense Department employees and contractors determined by the Secretary to be supporting active military members during the shutdown. The automatic appropriation would remain in effect until Congress enacts a regular appropriations bill, a continuing resolution, or another appropriations measure for fiscal 2026, or until January 1, 2027, whichever occurs first. This ensures military compensation continues uninterrupted during any break in standard appropriations.
