HR 5627 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To amend chapter 80 of title 10, United States Code, to require the Secretary of Defense to provide notice to the congressional defense committees of the involuntary reassignment, separation, or retirement of general or flag officers, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill requires the Secretary of Defense to notify Congress within 15 days whenever a general or flag officer is involuntarily reassigned, separated, or retired. The notification must include the rationale for the action, specifying whether it was based on conduct, performance, policy disagreements, or other factors. The notification must also describe the decision-making process followed, including any consultations with the relevant military department secretary. The requirement establishes a congressional oversight mechanism for personnel actions affecting high-ranking military officers.
