Veterans Affairs Transfer of Information and Sharing of Disability Examination Procedures With DOD Doctors Act
To amend title 10, United States Code, to include a single comprehensive disability examination as part of the required Department of Defense physical examination for separating members of the Armed Forces, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill requires that when military members separate from service and undergo required physical examinations, if they have medical conditions that might qualify them for Veterans Affairs disability benefits, the examination must be conducted by a health care provider certified by the VA to make disability eligibility determinations. Any disability eligibility determination made during the separation physical would be binding on the VA and used to assign a disability rating. The bill also requires the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs to jointly establish a shared record system for military members and veterans that allows both departments to access medical and personnel information.
