HR 5497 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Apostle Islands National Park and Preserve Act
To provide for the designation of Apostle Islands National Park and Preserve, and for other purposes.
Summary
The bill redesignates Apostle Islands National Lakeshore as Apostle Islands National Park and Preserve, dividing it into two components: Apostle Islands National Park and Apostle Islands National Preserve. The park and preserve will be administered as a single unit of the National Park System by the Secretary of Interior according to standard National Park System laws and existing regulations. Hunting and trapping are prohibited within Apostle Islands National Park, except where permitted by treaty or executive order pertaining to tribes, while hunting and trapping within Apostle Islands National Preserve will continue to be administered as they were before this act. Fishing will continue to be administered as it was before the redesignation, and the bill does not restrict hunting, fishing, or trapping on private land within the area. The bill requires visitor centers to include interpretive signage describing the region's history and tribal heritage and mandates that tribal treaty rights and reserved rights remain unaffected by this redesignation.
