To amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to direct State Medicaid fraud control units to investigate and prosecute instances of beneficiary fraud.
Summary
This bill would amend Medicaid law to direct State Medicaid fraud control units to investigate and prosecute fraud by Medicaid beneficiaries, in addition to their current focus on provider fraud. The bill expands the scope of fraud investigations to include instances where individuals fraudulently apply for or receive Medicaid benefits. Currently, State fraud control units primarily investigate fraud by healthcare providers, but this bill would also make them responsible for investigating and prosecuting fraud by individuals seeking or receiving Medicaid benefits. The changes would take effect 180 days after enactment.
