To amend the Weather Research and Forecasting Innovation Act of 2017 to expand the goals of the tornado warning improvement and extension program, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends the Weather Research and Forecasting Innovation Act of 2017 to expand the tornado warning improvement program. The bill directs the Under Secretary of Commerce to focus on developing improved tornado forecasts, predictions, and warnings for three specific areas: fast-developing storm systems such as derechos, areas that have historically had few or no tornadoes, and tornadoes that occur during evening or nighttime hours. These additions represent new focuses for the existing tornado warning improvement and extension program.
