Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act
To amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to enable State Medicaid programs to provide comprehensive, coordinated care through a health home to individuals with sickle cell disease.
Summary
The bill amends Medicaid to allow states to establish specialized health home programs for individuals with sickle cell disease, beginning January 1, 2026. These programs would provide comprehensive, coordinated care to sickle cell patients enrolled in Medicaid. States that create these programs must provide dental and vision services to participating patients, regardless of whether the state covers these services for other Medicaid beneficiaries. States would be required to report on the quality, access, and cost of care provided to sickle cell patients, and the federal government would develop and publish best practices guidelines for these programs by June 30, 2026.
