HR 5092 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
District of Columbia Police Home Rule Act
To amend the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to repeal the authority of the President to assume emergency control of the police of the District of Columbia.
Summary
The bill repeals Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which currently grants the President authority to assume emergency control of the District of Columbia's police force. Once enacted, the President would no longer possess this power to take over local DC police operations during emergencies or other circumstances. The bill makes a conforming amendment to remove references to this section from the District of Columbia Home Rule Act's table of contents. The effect is to place control of DC's police force permanently under local District of Columbia authority rather than subject to potential federal presidential assumption.
