Ms. Rivas introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary
A BILL
To require notice to be provided in the case of a transfer of an immigration detainee to a new facility.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the “Immigration Notification for Facility Oversight and Relocation Management Act of 2025” or as the “INFORM Act of 2025”.
SEC. 2. IN GENERAL.
In the case of any individual detained by the Secretary of Homeland Security pursuant to the immigration laws (as such term is defined in section 101(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act) at a facility, notice must be provided to the immediate family of that individual not later than 24 hours after that individual is transferred to a different facility. The notification shall include—
(1) the reason for transfer; and
(2) the name, address, phone number, and a point of contact for the new facility.
SEC. 3. DEFINITIONS.
For purposes of this Act:
(1) The term “immediate family” includes each—
(A) parent;
(B) sibling;
(C) child; and
(D) spouse. For purposes of this paragraph, the term includes any step- parent, step-child, or step-sibling, any foster parent or child, and any common law marriage, civil union, or domestic partnership recognized under law.
(2) The term “facility” includes any detention center or real property temporarily used for purposes of housing individuals detained under the immigration laws. <all>
