To repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 and amendments to that Act.
Summary
This bill repeals the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990, which currently makes it a federal crime to possess firearms within 1,000 feet of school grounds with limited exceptions. The repeal would eliminate the federal prohibition on carrying guns in school zones and remove the associated criminal penalties. The bill also removes related definitions and penalties from federal firearms statutes that were tied to the gun-free school zones restrictions. After enactment, federal law would no longer restrict firearm possession near schools, though states and local governments could still maintain their own restrictions.
