Seedlings for Sustainable Habitat Restoration Act of 2025
To amend the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to authorize the Secretary of Agriculture, acting through the Chief of the Forest Service, to enter into contracts, grants, and agreements to carry out certain ecosystem restoration activities, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends federal law to authorize the Forest Service to enter into contracts, grants, and agreements to support ecosystem restoration through native seed collection and seedling production. Eligible partners include state forestry agencies, nonprofit organizations, universities, Indian Tribes, and multistate coalitions. The bill allows these partnerships to focus on collecting and maintaining native seeds from managed seed orchards and producing seedlings for revegetation efforts. The law expands the Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program to explicitly include seed collection, maintenance, and seedling production as eligible activities. The bill provides a mechanism to fund forest and habitat restoration through native plant propagation and distribution.
