Loggers Economic Assistance and Relief Act
To establish a payment program for unexpected loss of markets and revenues to timber harvesting and timber hauling businesses due to major disasters, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill would establish a payment program administered by the Department of Agriculture to assist timber harvesting and timber hauling businesses that suffer revenue losses due to major disasters, including insect infestations. Eligible businesses would receive payments equal to 10 percent of their gross revenue if they experience at least a 10 percent revenue loss during a 30-day period or quarter compared to the same period in the previous year. Recipients must certify that payments will be used only for operating expenses. The bill authorizes $50 million in funding for the program for fiscal years 2026 through 2029 and requires annual reporting to Congress on program recipients and payment amounts.
