Medicare Mental Health Inpatient Equity Act of 2025
To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to eliminate the 190- day lifetime limit on inpatient psychiatric hospital services under the Medicare Program.
Summary
This bill eliminates Medicare's 190-day lifetime limit on inpatient psychiatric hospital services. Currently, Medicare beneficiaries are restricted to a maximum of 190 days of inpatient psychiatric care over their lifetime. The bill removes this limitation, allowing Medicare to cover inpatient psychiatric hospital services without a lifetime day limit, similar to how Medicare covers other types of hospital care. The changes would take effect on January 1, 2027.
