Military Family GI Bill Promise Act
To amend title 38, United States Code, to expand the ability of an individual entitled to Post-9/11 education benefits to transfer such benefits to dependents.
Summary
This bill expands eligibility for transferring Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefits to dependents. It allows separated military members, not just active-duty members, to transfer their benefits to family members. The bill removes the requirement that benefit transfers must occur only while the service member is actively serving in the Armed Forces. Service members with at least 10 years of service, including at least 6 years in the Armed Forces, become eligible to transfer benefits at any time.
