Summary

This bill amends the Food Stamp Act of 1977 to expand the definition of "good cause" for purposes of the work requirement that applies to food stamp recipients. Specifically, it adds that loss of adequate child care for a dependent child under age 12 constitutes good cause for voluntarily quitting a job. Under current law, recipients who voluntarily quit a job without good cause may be found to have failed the work requirement and could lose their food stamp benefits. With this amendment, someone who leaves employment due to loss of child care for a young child would not be considered to have violated the work requirement.
