To amend the Department of State Authorization Act of 2023 to extend the special hiring authority for passport services.
Summary
This bill extends the Department of State's special hiring authority for passport services from a three-year period to a five-year period. The special hiring authority allows the State Department to hire staff more flexibly and expeditiously to process passport applications and clear backlogs. The extension gives the department additional time to build and maintain its passport services workforce.
