HR 4368 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Justice for Atomic Veterans Act of 1998
To amend title 38, United States Code, to expand the list of diseases presumed to be service connected with respect to radiation-exposed veterans.
Summary
This Act amends title 38, United States Code, to expand the list of diseases presumed to be service-connected for veterans exposed to radiation during their military service. The Act adds ten conditions to the presumed service-connected diseases list: lung cancer, bone cancer, skin cancer, colon cancer, posterior subcapsular cataracts, non-malignant thyroid nodular disease, ovarian cancer, parathyroid adenoma, tumors of the brain and central nervous system, and rectal cancer. By adding these conditions to the presumed list, veterans exposed to radiation who develop these diseases can receive veterans benefits without having to prove a direct connection between their radiation exposure and the disease.
