Introduced Jul 10, 2025

Latest action (Jul 10, 2025) Referred to the House Committee on Financial Services.

Summary

This bill establishes a competitive grant program under which the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development awards grants to public housing agencies to install automatic sprinkler systems in certain existing public housing projects. The bill requires HUD to report to Congress within three years on the presence or absence of automatic sprinkler systems in public housing, with particular focus on older exempted properties. The grant program is authorized to receive $25 million annually through fiscal year 2034 from the Capital Fund, in addition to other appropriated amounts. The bill does not require public housing agencies to install sprinklers, and grants cannot be used for rebuilt properties.
