HR 417 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To prohibit the use of United States contributions to the United Nations to support the iVerify tool developed by the United Nations Development Programme, and for other purposes.
Summary
HR 417 prohibits the use of Federal funds to develop, implement, or support the iVerify tool developed by the United Nations Development Programme or any similar effort to label speech or expression as misinformation, disinformation, or malinformation. The bill prohibits both direct funding and voluntary U.S. contributions to the United Nations or other international organizations that support such efforts. Any Federal funds withheld under this prohibition are permanently rescinded and deposited in the general Treasury fund, and are not considered arrears to be repaid to the United Nations.
