Summary

This bill requires the Army Corps of Engineers to prohibit discharges of water from Lake Okeechobee through two specified lock and dam structures when the water contains microcystins above EPA-recommended levels for recreational waters. The determination would be based on tests conducted by the Army, other federal agencies, or the State of Florida. Microcystins are toxins produced by algae that can affect human health. The prohibition would prevent the release of contaminated water into downstream areas and waterways.
