Summary

This bill amends the Agricultural Research, Extension, and Education Reform Act of 1998 to authorize the Secretary of Agriculture to waive the matching funds requirement for grants awarded under the specialty crop research initiative. Under current law, entities that receive grants for specialty crop research must provide matching funds to help support the research projects. The bill allows the Secretary to waive this matching funds requirement for grants awarded after the bill becomes law, providing the Secretary with greater flexibility in distributing specialty crop research funding. This change may help entities with limited resources access specialty crop research funding.
