To amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to expand working hours for employees between the ages of 14 and 16 years during periods in which schools are in session, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends the Fair Labor Standards Act to expand allowable working hours for employees aged 14 to 16 years old during periods when school is in session. The bill provides that employment of these young workers is not deemed "oppressive child labor" if they work no more than 24 hours per week during weeks when school is in session. The bill also requires that work must begin no earlier than 7:00 a.m. and end no later than 9:00 p.m. in the local time zone. The bill establishes these new thresholds as exceptions to the federal definition of oppressive child labor.
