Historic Battleship Preservation Act

To repeal a provision of law preventing donation by the Secretary of the Navy of the two remaining Iowa-class battleships listed on the Naval Vessel Register and related requirements.

Introduced Feb 12, 1998

Latest action (Mar 13, 1998) Referred to the Subcommittee on Military Procurement.

Summary

This bill repeals Section 1011 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1996, which had prohibited the Secretary of the Navy from donating the two remaining Iowa-class battleships listed on the Naval Vessel Register. By removing this restriction, the bill allows the Navy to donate these historic battleships, presumably to organizations or institutions interested in preserving them.
