Police Officers Protecting Children Act
To allow certain qualified law enforcement officers and retired law enforcement officers to carry a concealed firearm to protect children in a school zone.
Summary
This bill amends federal law to allow qualified law enforcement officers and qualified retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms in school zones, provided they are authorized to carry concealed weapons under federal law. The bill also permits these officers to discharge firearms in school zones. Currently, federal law generally prohibits firearms in school zones, and this bill creates an exception for these authorized law enforcement personnel.
