HR 3094 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. To amend title 5, United States Code, to reduce the duration of probationary periods under an initial appointments for Federal employees, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill, the PREP Act, reduces the probationary periods for new federal employees in the competitive service, excepted service, and Senior Executive Service. For employees who previously held a position in the federal civil service, the probationary period is reduced to 6 months. For all other new federal employees, the probationary period is limited to 12 months. The bill also makes a technical change to IRS probationary period provisions. The shorter probationary periods would apply to initial appointments made after the bill's enactment.
