Summary

This bill amends the Federal Trade Commission Act to give the FTC authority to regulate nonprofit tax-exempt hospitals. Currently, the FTC's jurisdiction excludes tax-exempt organizations, but this bill carves out an exception for hospital organizations and cooperative hospital service organizations that are exempt from taxation under Internal Revenue Code section 501(a). This change allows the FTC to investigate and enforce antitrust laws against nonprofit hospitals, bringing them under the same antitrust enforcement authority that applies to for-profit hospitals.
