HR 273 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to continue to implement the Migrant Protection Protocols, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to implement the Migrant Protection Protocols in accordance with the January 25, 2019 policy guidance memorandum issued by former Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen. The Migrant Protection Protocols, also known as the "Remain in Mexico" policy, requires certain asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their U.S. asylum cases are processed rather than being released into the United States. The bill's directive overrides any other provision of law that would conflict with this implementation requirement.
