Safeguarding American Property Act of 2025
To amend section 236(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act with respect to the detention of aliens who commit certain property crimes.
Summary
This bill amends federal immigration law to expand the types of crimes that trigger mandatory detention of non-citizens. Specifically, it adds trespassing, vandalism, and arson to the list of property crimes for which immigration authorities must detain foreign nationals pending removal proceedings. Previously, these crimes did not automatically trigger mandatory detention under immigration law. The changes align property crime detention requirements with existing mandatory detention rules for other criminal convictions.
