To authorize the Pines Foundation to establish the Fire Island AIDS Memorial, and for other purposes.
Summary
The bill authorizes the Pines Foundation to establish and maintain the Fire Island AIDS Memorial at Fire Island National Seashore to honor residents who died from AIDS and educate the public about the epidemic's impact on the Fire Island communities. The memorial would be located along the walkway between Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove, adjacent to the Carrington House. The bill prohibits the use of federal funds for the memorial's design, installation, and maintenance, but allows the National Park Service Director to accept and use non-federal contributions for these purposes, subject to approval of the final design.
