Fishing Industry Credit Enhancement Act of 2025

To amend the Farm Credit Act of 1971 to support the commercial fishing industry.

Introduced Mar 31, 2025

Latest action (Apr 18, 2025) Referred to the Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit.

Summary

This bill amends the Farm Credit Act of 1971 to expand the Farm Credit system's eligibility requirements. Specifically, it would allow businesses that provide services directly related to commercial fishing operations—such as equipment suppliers, fuel vendors, or maintenance providers—to access Farm Credit loans and financial services. Currently, the Farm Credit system serves agricultural producers and some agricultural service providers, but does not explicitly include fishing industry support businesses. The amendments would grant these fishing-support businesses the same credit access available to other agricultural service providers, extending the Farm Credit system's reach into the commercial fishing sector.
