HR 2169 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Proper Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Inauguration Day Act
To amend title 5, United States Code, to provide that Martin Luther King, Jr. Day shall be observed separately from Inauguration Day, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends federal law to ensure that Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Inauguration Day are observed on separate dates. Currently, both holidays can fall on the same day in certain years when January 20 (Inauguration Day) falls on a Monday, which coincides with Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (the third Monday in January). Under this bill, if Inauguration Day would be observed on the date designated for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, then Martin Luther King, Jr. Day would instead be observed on the Tuesday following the third Monday in January.
