Crop Insurance for Future Farmers Act
To amend the Federal Crop Insurance Act to promote crop insurance support for beginning farmers and ranchers and veteran farmers and ranchers, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends the Federal Crop Insurance Act to expand support for beginning and veteran farmers and ranchers. It extends the definition of beginning farmers and ranchers from 5 crop years to 10 crop years, and extends the veteran farmer definition from 5 years to 10 crop years. The bill increases federal assistance for crop insurance premiums during these early years, offering 15 percentage points of additional subsidy in the first two years, declining to 10 percentage points by year five through ten. These changes make federal crop insurance support available for a longer period and at higher assistance levels for farmers and ranchers early in their operations or returning to farming as veterans.
